we are getting dd a real bike for her 5th birthday. she has mastered her skut to the point that she pretends to pedal with her feet while she glides along. so what size do i get her- 16"? any brands you would recommend?

We just purchases a 18inches for my 4 1/2yo but she is riding a 12 w/o training wheels and a 16inches with training wheels.   Most store have a chart that tell you what size to buy by the child height. Hope this helps...oh and my ODD is tall for her age!

yup, depends on how tall your kiddo is.  The leg length is the most important factor, though.

It depends on height. Almost 6 year old DS1 is still riding a 12" and it really is too small for him, he's getting a 16" like DD1 got for her 6th birthday for his 6th birthday.
