We LOVED the first one. It was so cute and good for the boys to enjoy. We haven't seen the new one, but I read a review today saying it was stupid and violent. I know reviews are in the eye of the beholder, but wondered what everyone else thought.

I saw those reviews too. I was going to get it off netflix but think we'll skip it. I don't like how in the first one they say "idiot" and "moron". who thinks that's okay for a kid's movie???Confused So if the 2nd one is worst than the first we're not going to watch it.

I'm curious to hear from other pin mamas what they thought though.

We love the 1st one.  So much so that I actually spent the $$$ to take my big two to see Cars 2 in the theater.  Baaaaaad idea.  It's basically a kids cartoon version of a James Bond movie.  The plot and the majority of the movie were waaaay over my kids' heads.  They spent most of the movie complaining and asking when it was time to go home.  I know some people have loved it but I didn't like it at all.  We won't watch it again.

I posted about this movie back when it came out in theaters. DH did take DS. We also bought it for him when it came out on Tuesday. He's watched it 23847 times since then. It's for sure worse than the  first. I loved the 1st. Mason still loves this one but if it weren't for him I wouldn't have bought it. Logan could care less about it. And with Mason acting it out I have to correct him in his play a lot. I think it would be good for your bigger guys but I'd skip it if you're just thinking of R.

Oh and on the note of violence - it's all about killing, blowing up, etc.

Yeah I've heard mostly bad things about it, both online reviews and from IRL friends.  Z loved the first one so much that we were going to take him to see it for his first theatre movie, but changed our minds based on what we heard.  We're going to rent it for him now that it's out, but I'll watch it with him and fast forward through anything I don't like

Christina, I'd watch it first w/ out him. lol  Mason had already saw it w/ out my knowing how 'bad' it was, so it's not like there's any turning back for me. It's not HORRIBLE, don't get me wrong, it just has him saying stuff I'd rather not hear come from my 4yo's mouth.

Thanks for the advice Bree :) DH thinks I'm being silly but maybe I will pre-screen it.

Charlie saw it in the theater with Dh and came home very upset.  It came up in conversation a couple days ago, and and Charlie told me "You do not want to see that movie, mom.  Never!" So yeah, I would definitely pre-screen it.

We took DD to see it, it was her first movie "for her" (she went with us to see Dawn Treader, but that was before she knew what was going on, we just didn't have anyone to watch her since my family all went with us to see it). I didn't like it near as much as the first one. The first one has such a cute story and a good moral to it, but this one was like an animated action film. I mean, yeah, it was funny and all, but not a movie for little kids. It didn't bother DD, but we don't plan on buying it (we own the first one).

My ds1 loves it and dd thought it was okay.  But my ds also loves iron man (the real people one), psych, merlin, and Dr. Who.  I don't like him to watch bloody or gory films and I don't like sexual stuff for him, really dark stuff, or gross/potty humor.  But I dont' mind watching some more "adult" or "family" things with him.  Dd watches that stuff sometimes as well.  I just talk about it as we watch it and in a few of the shows fast forward through a few things.  So you probably don't want to go by what we watch (no one in my house watches r movies or some other shows and movies I think are inappropriate so it isn't like we watch anything).

It wasn't as good as the first for kids.  And it wasn't as smart as the first film.  But I didn't love the first one, ds1 did.  And he loves the characters from the first movie so he loved the second one too.

That's exactly how I felt about it. I watched half of it with DS (who is a big cars lover) and was shocked about the violence. Where is the point in cars shooting guns? Wacko They even kill other cars.
DS was kind impressed of the varity of transportation stuff: boats, planes, helicopters and so on, the story was too adultish for him to get.
I'm not going to let him watch it again, I really don't want him to play "car wars" coping this movie. Ermm

I caught a little bit of it while DD was getting a haircut (I wish they would ask at the kids hair salon, but that's another issue). In the scene I saw, some cars were torturing another car to get information. I was AGHAST that a children's movie was dealing with the issue of torture and interrogation. I'll not be letting DD watch it.

Wow. Just based on all your reviews, we'll never see this movie. I just won't allow that kind of adult maturity in my home around my kids. I don't even like taking them out in public where random people can curse around my kids Confused
