I'm looking for recommendations for a decent digital camera suitable for the boys who will be 4 and 7 at Christmas time.  I was planning to get them the new leapfrog tablets for Christmas this year, but am starting to rethink it.  They have old school leapsters and they are completely happy w/ them and the cartridges we have for them won't work on the new tablet plus their current leapsters have rechargeable battery packs and the new tablet doesn't and only has a pretty short battery life per their specs.  One of the main reasons I was thinking of getting the new tablets in the first place is b/c DS1 has been wanting a camera for ages and the tablet has a camera and video feature.  So I've decided instead to look for just a camera or camera/video instead of the leapster tablets.  What do you have that you/ your kids like?

we have a vtech camera for ds. he had a lot of fun with it and filled up the memory so I have to figure out how to clear it lol. it has a couple games on there he has played quite a bit and also you can put funny things or frames on pictures, which he likes. the picture quality isn't great- though we havent developed to really see- on the camera though, and lately he has really been enjoying using our older digital camera! We got it for a good price, I think $19? so it was worth it to me.

If you want durability this is super durable and kid friendly, i would recommend it. but if you want a camera of better quality I would probably just get a cheaper real (adult) camera at walmart or something- I got one that was a discontinued display model for $49 last year when I couldn't find our other and it was a pretty good canon.

ETA we did get it on sale at christmas maybe at walmart when they had one of the big doorbusters sales, I remember TONS of kids cameras in flyers around that time!

We have the one Katie linked and I agree that it is a great durable camera.  Simple enough that DS figured out how to use point and click at about 18mos, but still enough of a camera for DD do have fun with it.  They have been rough on it and it has stood up very well!

My complaint about it is that there is a delay between pushing the button and the camera actually taking a picture so DD had to learn to hold the camera still for a while to get the pic she wanted.  We gave it to her for Christmas last year and still haven't downloaded any pics either - it holds a ton!!

If I had older kids that would look after things a little better, I would agree with Katie's idea to just get a cheap "real" camera than a kid's camera.

I'd get a real (cheaper) camera for the 7 year old. My (soon to be 7 yr old) is getting into adult stuff now...she doesn't want baby toys anymore.  The Vtech sounds like a good option for the 4 yr old, though.
