My son's diaper area has been getting irritated lately with the heat and use of
disposable diapers at night. I'd like to look into cloth diapering at night, in
the hopes that this will help his skin breathe a little. Any recommendations on
cloth diaper combinations that work for a heavy night-wetter?  (He's 27 lbs.)

(I know we're doing this a little backwards as we use disposables during the
day. But we didn't look into cloth diapering until fairly late, so we're
planning on starting CD with baby #2 instead, so that we can reap the economic
benefits a little bit more.) Thanks!

Finding the right night solution can be the toughest one to find:)

For my 2 kido's I use a Mother Ease Sandy's with 2 Panda Tushies Bamboo Doublers (one flat and one folded in 1/2) It ads 12 layers of bamboo absorbancy to the Sandy's.

I cover it all with either Wool or Fleece shorties, pants, or soakers (pull on covers) It works great and no need for pajama bottoms because the wool/fleece covers acts as a diaper cover and bottoms.

When they wake up the diaper is pretty soaked, but the sheets are dry because the cover worked. Fleece and Wool are also breathable covers which I love for night time because most PUL covers give my LO's heat rash, espcially when used over night. That doesn't happen to everyone though and they are worth a shot.

I tried Pocket Diapers in the beginning of cloth diapering but could never get them stuffed enough to last more than a couple hours (so no way would they last all night) fitted diapers with a good doubler and cover and a great option.
I am sure more will chime in with their thoughts and suggestons too!

I just use two prefolds folded into thirds inside a PUL cover...usually a Bummis.  My son is NOT a heavy wetter so I'm not sure my method would work for you...maybe with some bamboo or hemp doublers?  I just wanted to encourage you that you will find something that works and if you end up buying a bunch of things to try, your next kiddo will be able to use them!  Good luck.

We use FB and Haute Pockets for nights. With Premium PF as inserts.

our nighttime solution is a prefold with a washcloth trifolded inside as a doubler, with wool longies over.  it's always worked for us, but i don't think dd is a particularly heavy wetter

My older guy is just starting to outgrow heavy wetting at night.  What I used for him was a Motherease Toddle-ease diaper w/ a flat diaper folded into a long, thin rectangle and placed in the center.  When you use cloth for a toddler, esp. at night, you have to be sure that the mat'l gets rinsed well because their urine is more concentrated.  I like using flats because they unfold completely and rinse so well.  The Toddlease dipes are only moderately thick/absorbent, but they have a somewhat baggy cut, so there is a little more breathing room in there.  They also seem to rinse out pretty well.  I agree w/ Sarah about covers.

My DD is a heavy wetter and we use  a Mother Ease One size diaper (we have the Bamboo and Organic Cotton) with a Bamboo snap in insert and a hemp/cotton fleece (Jamtots) topped doubler and a wool cover (Aristocrats).  We've been using this method for a few months now and have never had a leak.  We were using BumGenius Pockets but then they stopped working really well as she grew bigger (in terms of absorbancy).

We use BSRB TIAN OR a bububebe fitted, both covered by a royal buns interlock soaker with an extra layer sewn in the wetzone.

For my DD (16months) we are using a pinned little lions flat stuffed with 3 hemparoos inserts coverer with wool, either Loveybums or Aristocrats.

My friend just switched to cloth for night for her 4yo son. She is using fitteds and with fleece shorties.

Good luck finding something that works for you!
