I picked all my onions awhile back and right now they are just sitting in a basket, kidna in one layer, in my kitchen on the floor.    I have quite a few and am not sure exactly how to store them for long term.  I  need the basket they are occupying in for the boys' outside toys.  that is it true purpose and i want to get the toy pile put away.

Ha, I was just wondering the same thing. Mine are outside drying in the sun. I think I'm going to put mine in old pantyhose, i think that's what my great aunt used to do, and she'd hang them in the basement. She was an amazing gardener, I wish she was still around to ask questions to.

Last summer I think i left them in the sun a little too long and they kinda cooked cause i ended up peeling all of them an putting them in the fridge.  they didn't get that nice crispy skin.

I think I remember my grandma doing the same thing now that you mention it.  maybe i should just ask her.   not sure why i didn't htink of that

That would be good, I'm not sure if I was imagining that or if I really remembered that's what she did with her onions. LOL!

We leave ours, tops on, in the shade in the open garage for maybe 2-3 weeks or whenever theyre dry and papery. Then cut the necks maybe 1-2", store in either old stockings or mesh baskets.

That is what my mom did. We always saved our hose with runs for that purpose! Our basement had a cold room but any dry cool place would probably work.

Yes, panty hose.  Tie a knot between each one, and then you just cut one off at a time as needed.
