One of the moms at my DD's preschool CD's and babywears. She was as shocked as I was to hear of another CDing mama in our tiny town. Anyway, she swears by her Beco. I have only used a ring sling, and really didn't use it much with a newborn. She raved about how easy it is to back carry with the Beco, so I watched some Youtube videos and it looks like something I "have" to have! Except I don't know if it will fit me. From what Beco's website says, it seems it will fit (up to 57" waist, and I'm probably 42-44 inches). I'm 5'5" and weigh about 245, plus am a 44 DDD bra size. So, those of you who have a Beco, do you love it? Why or why not? What other carriers do you suggest? These are a bit pricey so I want to be relatively sure I will love it! Worst case, I guess when school starts up again late August I can have the other mama bring hers in for me to try since I'm not due till Nov, except I'll be super huge by then!

I love, love my Beco. The inner panel makes me feel my LO is secure when I'm loading up for a back carry solo. It's still comfortable for me to use with my almost 3yo, who is 32 lbs.
ETA: I don't know about the fit for your body type - I'm pretty average. Mine did fit fine while pregnant, right up to term. I'd suggest trying one before buying. Edited by northwoods - 03 Jun 2012 at 9:16pm |

I love my Beco!! I can comfortably carry my 20lb 1 year old or 40 lb 4 year old, front or back. It's easy to get on myself and better than my ring sling and mei tai. It did take me a bit in the beginning to get all the various adjustment points to where I like them, but once adjusted it fits great.

I will take any opportunity to suggest a woven wrap. they are not as convenient as structured carriers, but if you're concerned about fit, they are awesome.
I had an old-style Beco and loved it. |

If you're concerned about the waist size, do they come with extenders? I know the Ergo does, but I don't have any experience with Becos.

I love my Beco, I started using it when DD was still pretty tiny last year since my Moby was too hot in the summer. My DH can wear it and he's about 250 and 5'10". He has smaller breast though.

I have a Beco and really like it, I am pretty trim with zero chest though, so probably not the best person to ask
![]() My friend tried it out. She is heavier with a chest and she did not find it to fit that great, my other friend who is about 160# with maybe a "c" chest has borrowed mine and really likes it. Is there any way you could try them out? I started using a wrap, and I actually find it to be much more comfortable than my Beco because I can adjust where the weight is pulling, not just at my shoulders and now that YDS is used to it he does great with a back carry too. I also like a MT for back carries because I can cross the straps across my chest and tie under the bum for more "lift" and less stress on my shoulders. So I like my Beco, but I started to lean toward a MT and then to a wrap. Oh and my friend who was not comfortable in the Beco borrowed my MT and LOVED it so she got one. She still wears her little guy around and really likes it. A MT is nice because it is faster than a wrap, but more flexible than a soft structured carrier. |

Northwoods and Sarah, I am in the process of setting up a playdate with the mom from Pre-K and she is going to let me try hers. Renee, I don't think there are extenders, but really not sure. The waist adjustment seems to go up way past what my waist size is, so I just need to make sure it fits in the chest. If I don't end up liking it, I'll probably just save my money and use the ring sling that I'm used to.
