I'm 5'6" I NEED to be around 140 just because of family history with diabetes. My mom's whole family is diabetic and I was classified as pre-diabetic until last year when I lost 40lbs. My goal is to be around 135. I have to be honest, I was shocked to fit into 8s so I realistically have no idea what my body is like at normal weight. So, PP I don't think I have any expectations for size or shape. My goal is to just be healthy and energetic. My weight was tied to my propensity for diabetes and my PCOS. My hormones were all out of whack. It is why I couldn't get pregnant for so long, (5 years). I want to stay healthy because I want at least 1 more kid. I am so glad I lost the weight I did before I got pregnant because I know I am having a healthier pregnancy than I would have at my heaviest weight. |

if you don't mind my asking, how tall are you? and what was your original goal weight and your last goal weight? seems like if you were an 8 and wanted to lose another 40 you would be a 0 by then!

That makes sense. The size/weight thing is tricky b/c there are so many variables. Even aside from brands and styles, our bodies are just all different. Like my best friend and I are just about the same height but built very differently, and at the same weight she wears a size bigger jeans than I do (she has bigger hips, I have bigger boobs
). And I've realized that when I get to both my goal weight *and* the level of toned up that I hope to achieve, that I might be a size 4 instead of my size 6 goal. So I also think it's good to (reasonably) adjust your goals along the way - whether that be up or down.

Thanks, that is a really good idea. I think I have plenty of goal clothes packed away in my closet. I purchased a ton of new clothes right before I found out I was pregnant. I was so sad because I barely wore them and then couldn't fit in them very quickly. My original goal when I was losing weight the first time was a size 8 but then I hit it and realized that I still had 30-40lbs left to lose to get to my healthy weight. So 6 was my goal for this month and 4 was my real goal. So now I think 6 is a reasonable PP size. |

ITA that it's great to have healthy goals
What really worked for me was setting a final goal, but with some mid-way goals first. So after having a baby last Feb, my goal was to feel decent in a swimsuit by the summer. I bought a swimsuit that was a size down from my PP measurements and got into it by August (so 6mos PP) - I didn't make any hardcore diet changes, just generally tried to eat healthy, did yoga, walked/ran. By the time D turned 1, I was into my goal jeans (size 6 - I was a 4 at my pre-baby smallest so based on body changes I made a 6 my goal) and within 5lbs of my final goal weight. So maybe give yourself some interim goals that you can feel good about along the way.

I think having goals is great too! But they have to be realistic goals. If you've never been a size 6, why is that your goal now? Maybe you're body just isn't built that way? PP goals are hard because like Sam said, you *really* need to eat and drink enough pp if you're nursing. It will take a toll on your body by taking from your muscle and bones (calcuim!) and cause major problems. Then the milk will suffer last or your supply.

Good luck! I don't think I've ever been a size 6. (well at least not since middle school
) Try not to stress about it but I think it's great to have something physical like a goal outfit to strive for! |

Being pregnant right along with you I can relate - I really just can't wait to get my body back. I feel like a cow right now because my hips and butt get *so* big (in relation to what they are pp). I've gained ~26lbs so far and usually I'm told to gain about 40 since I'm so small to begin with. I'm really trying NOT to gain 40 though. lol But I'm sure it'll happen as it did with both boys. That being said - we're pregnant. We need to gain the weight for baby and make sure he/she is healthy. If I had to gain 70lbs to have a healthy baby I would. Whatever happens happens and the weight will come off eventually, kwim? After DS1 it took me 6mo to lose it all. After DS2 it was much quicker (like 2mo) but that's because my life was a lot crazier and busy. I know for some mamas it takes much much longer. I have a friend who is still working on losing it all and her DS is about to turn 1. For everone it's different so I wouldn't worry or stress about it much, especially right now.
And Sam's right - even if you lose it all and then some, you still might feel that you should be fitting into one size and don't. My body was WAY different after two babies than it was in HS, even though I weighed less than I did in HS! So if you don't make it into those 6s as fast as you think you should, or even ever, don't stress over it! You just need to be comfortable in the body you have :)

It's great to have healthy goals! ITA with what Sam said, I had a really hard time losing weight while BF'ing, both times. When I tried to diet or exercise too intensely, my milk supply would drop. Only when the kids cut way back on nursing did the weight come off. And yeah, I actually weigh 5 pounds less than I did before I got pregnant with my first (I was 135 then), but I have trouble buckling my belt because my hips are wider, and my tummy is definitely "pouffier".

Good points! I am certainly focusing on being healthy for baby. On a GD diet right now so I'm gaining my doctor's minimum weight requirements for me and still feel like I'm eating like a cow.
I've never in my life been a size 6 so I have no idea. Pre-pregnancy I went from a 14 to a 10/8. With my family history of diabetes I NEED to be at a healthy weight which for me would be a perfect 135. I'm just hoping that 135 = size 6. Did I mention they were stretchy.

It's great to have something to aim for and I wish you the best, but I would focus on healthy pregnancy and baby for a while and not get totally hung up on losing weight too quickly. If you intend to BF that will require and use a lot of calories and your baby needs them. Something else to consider is that your changes in ways that don't register on a scale. After 5 pregnancies I weigh the same amount I did in highschool. The size 4's I have that I keep thinking I should be able to wear don't fit. Not because I'm fatter than I was, but because my hips have spread from the bones inside shifting. If I didn't remind myself of this I would probably be discouraged.

Before I became preggers I was working down to a goal to be a size 6. I wanted to hit that goal around this time. Since baby totally interrupted that
it got me to thinking that it might be really easy to forget about myself in the next 365 days.So I got a coupon for VS today for some panties which I desperately need and decided to add a pair of jeans and a bikini to fill out my order for free shipping. The jeans I got were size 6 skinny. ![]() I actually can't wait to get back to running. I hope this will give me encouragement to remember my goals.
