    Posted: 22 May 2012 at 10:24pm
i had DH's car for the evening and since I have our infact seat out i decided to play around and see what would fit.  He drives a toyota camry.  DH has morning duty, so to speak.  As of right now the plan is for Joseph to ride the bus to school and DH will take Jordan and the bean to daycare on his way to work.  Really I only need the infant seat and Jordans seat in the back.  Joseph would only be in the car if it was a no school day and I had to work.

We currently have 2 Graco Nautalis seats.  I was able to get all three seats in the back but it was a really tight squeeze and I am not sure how practical it would be on a daily basis.

My other question is if I put one Mautalis and the infant seat on the outboard seats would there be room for a bumble seat between them.  The seat belt buckles towards the infant seat.

All three in there

Sure looks tight but the important part is that it looks safe too. :)

Every seat is in tight.  They dont' move.  i am just not sure of how easy it would be to wiggle the infant seat in there every morning for DH.  Joseph wouldn't be in his seat normally.

Oh and I know the handle has to be down.  I just forgot.

I didn't even notice the handle!

I can see your point about wiggling the infant seat in there. but as you said, Joseph wouldn't normally be in there so it might be a bit easier. or maybe jsut a lot of practice now will make it easier?

If your ODS will only be in there rarely, having the two seats outboard and using a narrow booster, like a bubble bum, in the middle seems like a good option if you think your ds rides safely in a booster.

Amanda-- that is what I am not sure of.  He hasn't been in a backless booster before.    I am tempted to get it and have him practice a few times this summer.  From what I can figure by loooking at the calander Joseph would be in the car maybe once every 2 months if that.

I'm impressed that you got 'em all in there! I agree though that I'd probably do them both outboard and get the bubblebum for Joseph. Especially if it's only rarely that he's going to be riding in it. He'll be 5.5 by then so I think he'll be able to understand that he needs to sit properly, etc. Squeezing that infant seat in every morning might get old, and might make baby mad if it requires too much jolting.

What if you left the infant seat in the middle and just put the booster in the outboard seat when you need to use it?  The boosters are tough to buckle when they are next to another carseat, it is a tight space to get your hand in there.  It might be easier to buckle a booster on the outboard seat versus in the middle between two seats.  Since the booster can easily come out when you don't need it, your dh wouldn't have to be reaching over a seat to put the infant seat in unless all 3 are riding in there.  Also, my high back booster is narrower than my Nautilus so you might be able to fit that outboard as well, instead of the bubble bum if you prefer.

I was thinking this too. Good job getting all 3 seats in there. I'm impressed.

I was thinking the same, putting the booster outboard so you can take it in and out as needed.

If it was going to be long term, I would suggest a Radian, but for short term occasional I would go with a booster. I can fit 2 radians and a GN in our small Kia Spectra. It is tight but they are in there. The nice thing is that I can get the Radian outboard so putting them in RFing is a bit easier.

I didn't think about having the infant in the middle and leaving the outboard seat open.   That sounds like a good plan too.  I will have to play somemore with the seats.   Since it is DH's car and he is the one that has to get them in and out at daycare every morning.  He will have final say.

If this was a vehicle we took family trips in or DH had to have all three kids in every morning I would definatly look at some new seats for the boys.  Plus I noticed this week that Joseph doesn't have much room to grow on the harnus for the nautlis anyway.  The straps are on the last slot and he has less than 1/2"

Once this winter is over i will go to a convertable for the baby and I think the Cosco scerena is pretty narrow and should work or maybe the raidian

Since you know it is possible to fit all three in I would probably just leave the younger kid's seats where they are with the infant seat in the middle, and then just put Joseph's Nautilus in when it's needed.
And when he outgrows the Nautilus don't forget you can go to BRU and try buckling seats into your car.
