I was thinking that it might be nice to have a support thread again for those of us who are trying to give up various things in our diets (like when a bunch of us went sugar-free, but we can do it for anything this time).  Anyone with me?

My goal is to give up sweets again since I felt great after I did it before but I haven't been great at sticking with it  I plan to do the same thing again, cut out all sugary treats/snacks.  Sugar in healthier forms like fruit is allowed, and I will let myself have 1 cheat a week (nothing too crazy, usually a sbux chai on Saturday mornings)  Since i happened to start yesterday on May 1, I guess it makes sense to go for a month!

I'm in!  I could do with giving up Dr. Pepper again.  I've been good and cut down to one 20 oz. a day (instead of the three a day I was having a few months ago ShockedEmbarrassedConfused).  But my body and my wallet could definitely do with getting rid of them completely.  Not only could I do with less caffeine (I definitely have more sustained energy when I'm not hooked on caffeine), but my teeth could do with out the sugar, and my belly could do without the bloating from the carbonation.

I've already mostly cut out sweet snacks.  I'm not much of a cake/cookie person, but I love me some candy.  I only have it occasionally anyway, so I'm not too worried about cutting it out completely.

I'm still off sugar for the most part.

I tried to kick the caffeine habit a few weeks ago and did okay for about a week. After that, massive FAIL. I have cut back though. I'm okay having a cup of tea in the morning but the coffee was making me too anxious and jittery.

I am in!  I would love to give up sweets for a month.  I want to follow the same plan as Christina - only one sugary treat a week.

Yay, glad to have people joining me!

I'm 3 days in and holding strong.  Yesterday I shared a little bit of Z's (all fruit) smoothie which was a nice treat but still within my rules.  I was tempted when DH was eating ice cream last night, but it wasn't a big deal to not have any.  I'm really hoping this is going to help me get past the weightloss plateau I'm on since it has worked in the past!

This is just like my starbucks habit Embarrassed  I *cannot* go there everyday, both for my health and for my wallet!  So that's definitely part of my sweets restriction since it's not like I'm just getting a regular coffee there.

I didn't even make it through day 1 Confused.  I forgot I had made a batch of lactation cookies Tuesday.  I should have them gone by today though.  In all fairness, I don't even like the cookies - they are very bitter because I use so much brewers yeast.  I make myself eat them because they seem to be a big help in keeping up my supply.  I won't have any trouble giving them up!

Anyone have any ideas on how else I can get brewers yeast into my diet?

Linda, i think someone mentioned before that they like it on popcorn. no wait.. that was nutritional yeast. what IS brewers yeast?

AND, Linda, love your new avi ;) tiff has that same eyebrow thing. i love the pics of her with it cocked up!

i am not going to say i am giving up anything specific, but eating better overall. i am already overweight and really need not to gain during this pregnancy. so far, so good.

i love these threads, they are very motivating seeing everyone else behaving!

Well, after saying I was giving up Dr. Pepper (or I guess it should be soda in general), I went and had two cans of soda at ODD's softball game last night.  Oops.  Guess I'll start today!

I had black tea this morning, so that was my caffeine for the day.  So now it's all water or those tiny packet drink mix things.  But probably just water.

I so need to join you ladies! I have gone seriously out of control with the sugar/sweets this pregnancy. I've already gained more this pregnancy than I did with DS (still in the normal range though, I barely gained anything with DS) and I still have 2 months to go. Eeeek!I know if I just cut out all the sweets things would level off a bit. I'll take the rest of this week to get everything sweet out of the house and then start on Sunday. This is going to be really hard for me... I've never had cravings like this before, it's going to be tough to try to ignore them!

Meghan:  Have you tried eating protein when you crave sweets?  Someone told me to do that when I was pregnant with Zeke.  I would eat some turkey lunch meat or something (just because that's what was in the fridge), but it totally worked.  Maybe keep some cooked chicken or some beans in the fridge to munch on?

Something is! Had a good weigh-in this morning. But I just slashed my "work ration" of dark chocolate a few days ago, so i have a feeling it's a lucky side benefit from my caffeine avoidance.

And i've found that yogurt w/Kashi cereal is a good way to get me eating yogurt (and not eating whatever else I'd be eating as a bedtime snack)

I've heard of this, but I'm not really a big meat eater. I think I'll try stocking the fridge with bean and cheese and yogurt and try to grab those as snacks instead of sugary things.

Thanks!  Sam has some major eyebrow expressions.  It is very funny.

And I think brewers yeast is some kind of leftover product from the beer making process.  It is a brown, smelly, bitter powder.  I'm thinking maybe I can get away with adding a tsp to a daily fruit smoothy to hide it. The oatmeal/brewers yeast combination really does seem to help my milk supply.

Certain foods can be an addiction. It is like being a crak addict and needing your fix! Just might a bit easier to wean yourself off of crack...

Oh, Dr. Pepper is most definitely like crack to me.  The trick is going to be not replacing it with something equally as bad for me.  Like the ice cream I keep thinking about.

I'm trying not to be too stingy with what kinds of foods I'm taking in.  I'm really working my body hard with all the running I've been doing, and the weight is starting to come off again.  I don't want to get too low, and crappy food is a good way for me to keep some of the weight on.

I did well today, no cheats at all.  Trying to take it day by day though since a month seems so darn long when I think about it LOL

Linda - your rules are up to you, but I think the lactation cookies seem reasonable since they're for a reason and it sounds like you don't really like them anyway!

Katherine - yay for a good weigh-in!

Meghan - yogurt (full fat) with granola was my go-to snack while pregnant... and pretty much the only thing I ate the whole time I was preg with D Embarrassed  It was sweet enough to satisfy a sweets craving, but pretty healthy and I think the protein did help too.

Beth - hope you were able to push through without giving in!

Alright, who's still with me??

Yesterday was bad, so I'm starting over today  I had my allotted cheat of a sbux chai, but then accidentally shared a cinnamon roll with Z (truly honestly forgot until I'd had a few bites)... by then I'd totally given up and had a hot fudge sundae for dessert.  So yeah, bad  Today is a new day!

I am still in!! I did well this past week.  I even found some leftover Easter candy I confiscated from the kids, planning to spread out their sweets a little rather than have them gorge and we all forgot about it.  Instead of eating it, I threw it away.  Being the frugal person I am, that was tough for me.  But I struggle with self control so if it was in the house, I would have eaten it.

My splurge this week was half of a sonic blast.  It is Sonic's version of the Dairy Queen Blizzard. DH was in a fishing tournament this weekend and we all went to the weigh in.  They had bands playing and blow up bouncers for the kids to play in.  But it was a long, hot, sunny afternoon so we told the kids we would get them something yummy on the way home.  DD couldn't finish hers so I did.  Not what I would have picked for my one thing, but I was hot and tired too and it was yummy!

I'm not in on your challenege because I seriously suck that badly. LOL  But I wanted to say Meghan - yogurt helps me too w/ the sweets cravings. I never craved sweets with the boys besides once I wanted lemon meringue pie w/ Mason. lol  But this time has been out of control! Chocolate and cheesecake I want a lot. Luckily I don't have easy access to cheesecake! Maybe this means that little babe is a girl!

I did great yesterday, only 2 coffees. I think it's because I was out of the house much and didn't really have access to it. I believe the days I'm home I'll probably need more motivation..
