Not sure what to call them... they are the shirts with a tie made out of fabric and then sewn on (or iron on)

Anyone have an easy tut that they have used for that? I have fabric that I was going to make shorts for the boys, and then thought it would be fun to make them coordinating shirts with "ties" if I can get it done it would be perfect timing for Easter pictures too

Well, thanks for getting it in my mind!  I really have to do this for my guys while I still can.  We do a lot of coordinating outfits, and these would be way too much fun.  I might even get to the secondhand store and see about using cut-up real ties!

I know you said nevermind, but here are some I made.  Except for the last picture with the circle fabric, I did two separate pieces for the tie ... one for the "knot" and one for the hanging down part, so I could turn the fabric to match how a real tie would lay.  I liked the longer, thinner ties, rather than the short, wide ties ... so I made a pattern according to the boys' shirt sizes.  I used wonder under to iron on the material and then I did a finishing stitch around it and through the middle at the knot and hanging down part.

I made Elliana's dress and the trim is the same as the boys' shirts.

Here is one of the first ones I made.

These I actually did too low on the shirt, and they don't quite look right, but the boys don't mind.  Smile

Love them! They turned out great!!

I came across this one that had 2 pieces and that does make sense so that I could turn the fabric. Great idea!

I just needed something to help with the shape, I am not good with that

Just google necktie coloring sheets and you'll find lots of images to use to trace.

Good memory, Bree!  I have some moments of down time that I am trying to get caught up on computer stuff!  LOL  And I love crafts, so it is easy to take time to share.

I was going to say that using a finishing stitch works better in terms of a lasting product as a straight stitch just to the inside of the tie will allow for fraying along the edges.  Still a neat look, if you want it like that.  And I think the shorter, thicker (what my DH calls "clown ties") looks really cute on infants and little, little boys, but if it is for an older boy and you want it more for a nicer look, the longer style will look more appropriate.

clown tie Good point. I have a big and little guy, but think the little guy can pull of a longer/narrow tie because he is walking. Some how once they start walking and are stretched out they don't look so "short and stout"

Sam - good idea about coloring sheet, never thought of that

I actually have one or two clip-ons.  Bet I could double-check the width against one of those.
