Hi!
I am new to the forum (and to CDing) my husband and are expecting our first baby here in December.

For the newborn stage we are using kissaluv size 0 and GMD orange (and also yellow)

My main concern is the washing routine. We wash ALL our clothing on cold and I am not really "into" washing on hot. I would use hot to prep them but I would rather not use hot all the time.

Has anyone tried to wash on warm instead of hot?

Also feel free to give any tips on washing (I have a FL HE using Allen's liquid detergent).

Thanks!

I would suggest you go ahead and try warm, or even cold.  My LO didn't have any diaper washing issues until he got a bit older.  You'll know if you need to change to a warmer water temp--the baby will get a rash because the det. isn't rinsing well, or they will smell funny.  Don't worry about new-baby stains though, because they come out w/ sunning or repeated washing, and aren't a sign that you need to change your routine.

Welcome, and congrats Smile.

warm should be fine for the most part. My only concern would be bacteria as you introduce new foods to your child's diet later on (bacterias LOVE food poop), and then you may want to re-visit your washing preferences and add something to keep them at bay (bleach, vinegar, detergent with enzymes like Tide), or even give them a good boil in a stock pot on the stove once a month if you aren't comfortable. Even in pre-washer days diapers were boiled every so often to clean them.

DO you have hard water?  We do, so we need the hot wash to get the detergent to suds, and then rinse out.

There are a lot of CD families that wash in cold only. Some don't have issues, some do. Really depends on your water. But, I agree w taycia about boiling every so often due to bacteria. Yay for another CD family! Congrats!

I think you will be fine with warm water. I always wash on warm, rinse once in warm and final rinse in cold. Sometimes I add another warm rinse before the final cold rinse if I have an extra large load or if I put too much detergent. The dipes come out fine. I only time I used hot was to prep and when I had to strip the BGs because of DD got rashes I suspect from detergent residues. We used All F&C we get from the base commissary, now we are using Purex baby, hopefully it will be fine. I do put baking soda in the pre-wash for the fitted and inserts which I wash separate from the dipes with PUL. I also put Calgon with the detergent in the wash.
